Our Muskoka Chair design was selected by a panel of judges to be created and exhibited at the 2015 Pan Am Games. My contributions to the team consisted of initial design and execution, mainly the loon, scenery, and text. The design captures Ontario’s cottage life through iconic Canadian imagery pertaining to the great outdoors. Inspiration was drawn from influential Canadian artists who created art that incorporated our nation’s roots. This is exemplified in the loon, feathers, and fish, influenced by Indigenous artist, Norval Morrisseau. In addition, the overall style, specifically the forest and lakes, was inspired by the Group of Seven, through the use of bold colours and the imagery of untouched Canadian landscapes.
